Letter from the Director – February 2026

Dear friend,

As we watch this winter’s weather unfold and keep a close eye on our very low snowpack conditions, we have also begun planning for summer – including preparing to welcome a new cohort of student interns through the EarthLab internship program! UW undergraduate students from all departments and campuses are eligible to apply for these paid positions, several of which are hosted within the Climate Impacts Group to support a wide range of our efforts to advance climate change adaptation. Please encourage students you know to consider applying!

On a personal note, I’m approaching my one-year anniversary at the UW Climate Impacts Group! I could not be more delighted and honored to be part of this amazing organization and community of partners, supporters, donors, and friends. We continue to navigate an uncertain year, but a recent bright spot includes NOAA reinstating a portion of our terminated funding to support adaptation work addressing extreme heat, smoke, and coastal hazards. And, thanks to private donations from our supporters, we are able to continue some of our near-term efforts working with frontline communities and supporting equitable climate adaptation. As these projects continue, we look forward to sharing the impact of our work.

Looking ahead, I hope to see many of you at our March 18 celebration and film screening or at an upcoming webinar. Thank you for your steadfast support!

With gratitude,
