Effective management of groundwater nitrate requires a multi-faceted approach to both reduce current exposure to groundwater nitrates and the amount of excess nitrate within groundwater systems. The Northwest Climate Resilience Collaborative reviewed resources on treatment and non-treatment nitrate management approaches with a focus on strategies providing resilient improvements in water quality for households and small water systems. Findings from this review are shared in a synthesis document. This document includes frameworks developed in other states for prioritizing groundwater nitrate management approaches, cost estimates and pros and cons of different nitrate treatment options.
